Who are the parents of the Tate brothers?

If you listen to any podcast or interview from Tates, you can hear great admiration for their father. He was a genuine male role model to them, especially for Andrew. Emory Tate was an extraordinary father figure, there are not many children who can tell they grew up next to chess genius. Their mother Eileen was in a catering business.

Soon after they married, Emory Tate and Eileen Ashleigh Tate welcomed their three children: Andrew, Tristan and Janine. We are all familiar with Andrew and Tristan, who are controversial social media stars, but their sister Janine is living a completely different lifestyle.

Who was Emory Tate?

Andrew`s  father's full name was Emory Andrew Tate Jr. and he was an American chess player, as both Tate brothers frequently point out. He  was born in 1958 in Chicago, US.

That success runs in the family is confirmed by the fact that  Emory`s father,  Emory Andrew Tate Sr. was a famous attorney.

Emory Tate started playing chess when he was young, and achieved impressive results. Talking about his great skills, his son Andrew said: "I never saw him study chess books, ever. He also hated chess computers and never used them. He just sat down and played."

During his outstanding career Emory won the United States Armed Forces Chess championship five times.Tate also won the Indiana state championship six times and the Alabama state championship in 2010.

Emory`s  highest FIDE rating was 2413 on the October 2006 rating list, which made him the 72nd highest-rated player in the United States and among the top 2000 active players in the world. In 2007, Emory Tate received high recognition for chess player - the international master title! Once earned the title is held for lifetime.

As claimed by chess teacher Craig Jones, Emory Tate was the most charismatic and entertaining player in America’s chess history. A fellow player, Jacqueline Guglielmi, said that Emory never cheated but was rightly arrogant. Does this remind you of his eldest son  Andrew Tate? There is proof that the apple doesn't fall far from the three.

Beside chess, Emory Tate had a fruitful career in the US army. In the 1980s, Emory was enlisted in the Air force. During his service, he was promoted to senior airman, sergeant, and staff sergeant respectively. In this period of life his linguistic abilities became very handy. In the military Tate learned Russian, Spanish and German.

Emory Tate passed away when he was just 56 years old, on October 17, 2015.

Tate died suddenly during a chess tournament in California. Following his death, Andrew posted multiple posts on social media as a tribute to his late father who spent his last years teaching chess to school children.

Emory Tate has inspired many chess players, and for many African American his name is considered legendary. He's even had a biography written about him by Author Daimm Shabazz, it's called  ‘Triple Exclam’.
